the way a CTO farm scam works
Create attention and build trust
The scammer creates a follower base presenting themselves as a knowledgeable trader. They engage the community with calls and succes stories to build trust and grow their follower base. They are supported by influential people to build trust.
There are often multiple channels and accounts involved and probably runned by the same person.
Buy phase
The scammer buys a significant amount of a specific cryptocurrency at a low price and in layers. Then he announces it to the community as a hot investment opportunity, urging members to buy quickly. This announcement generates excitement and leads to a rapid increase in the cryptocurrency’s price.
Sell off
Once the price is sufficiently inflated due to the community’s buying activity, the scammer sells their holdings at the high price. After making their profit, the scammer either disappears or shifts the blame for the subsequent price drop on external factors, leaving the community members with devalued assets. After a while they will delete their account and create a new one with the same strategy
